As the afternoon shadows lengthen, Will Link taps on the office side window to speak to the manager before shunting round the two empty skips. He'll have to move that flat wagon that he left on the loop line after yesterday's platelaying. No doubt when he does run the loco round, those chickens behind the shed will get a fright. It won't put them off laying for long however, in fact the nest just visible behind the planking already has three eggs in it. Probably the manager, Nipper Cook, is still dozing after a liquid lunch at the pub just over the hill. This annoys Will, since he spent his lunchtime unloading the contents of the skips into a steam lorry which has now left for nearby Shrewsbury town.
